2020-now: The Dow Moments 2026 (selected panels)
This is a long-term project with several individual series that combines unique visual art experimentation with technology, economic and financial market information to record mass sentiments.

The Dow Moments 2025-2026
48 Pieces of The Dow Moments 2025-2026 at the Culture Lab, LIC Art Gallery, Queens, New York, USA. 2026
“The Dow Moments 2025–2026” was included in my two solo exhibitions, Market Forces and Cultural Identity: The Art of Dr. Gan Yu, May 9–July 1, 2026, CCACC Art Gallery, Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA, and Footprints Across the Ocean: The Art of Gan Yu, September 3–December 6, 2025, Schmucker Art Gallery, Gettysburg College, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, USA. It was also included in the group exhibition Modern Ink: Crossing Media, Blending Cultures, February 5–March 29, 2026, Culture Lab LIC, Long Island City, Queens, New York, USA.
Compared with the almost monochromatic treatment of the earlier Dow Moments, these panels represent a new stylistic direction within my ongoing series. Beginning in January 2025 and continuing into 2026, this body of work emphasizes strong colors, textual surfaces, and layered brushwork. I combine elements of Chinese brush painting, calligraphy, and seal carving with the expressive brushwork, vibrant color contrasts, and improvisational spirit associated with American Abstract Expressionism.
Each individual work integrates the graph of a specific moment in the Dow Jones Industrial Average with the forms and hues of mountain landscapes. Through this synthesis, stock-market imagery and natural mountain forms become intertwined, extending the concept of the “Stock Market Landscape” into a more expansive and humanistic visual language. The works seek to evoke the traditional Chinese aesthetic ideal of “harmony between heaven and humanity,” while placing that ideal in dialogue with the volatility and visual energy of contemporary financial markets.
By assembling one, three, six, sixteen, and even larger numbers of individual Dow Moments within a single frame, I create compositions in which varied shapes, colors, and market movements interact dynamically. The resulting arrangements generate a rich and vibrant visual field, in which individual moments become part of a larger landscape. Through this expanded format, The Dow Moments conveys a deeper artistic and humanistic dimension, transforming financial data into an evolving visual landscape.

The Dow Moments 2025-2026 at the Culture Lab, LIC Art Gallery, Queens, New York, USA.
